Savouring the 5 Senses of Turkey

Turkey is high up on my bucket list. But I have yet to make a trip there.

So when the invite came from Thomas Cook Airlines to experience what Turkey can offer through the #5sensesofTurkey event, I couldn’t resist and was keen to see what I have been missing.

We gathered at Paradise, a baroque-chic pub based in Kensal Rise filled with quirky bohemian shabby-chic decorations, and a rooftop bar offering an eclectic array of “senses” stations to explore.

A drum band with violin greeted us as I stepped into the Rooftop bar. Interesting choice of music I’d say!

The organisers welcomed us with an open bar of Turkish cocktails. I had an elixir called Antalyan Dream Turkish Delight martini made with vanilla vodka, white creme de cocao and rose water. Although, other cocktails looked just as dreamy with the likes of Dalaman Citrus Ice Tea (a mixture of citrus Turkish ice tea and agave syrup) on offer.

Then, with a drink in hand, my first sense was awakened by the delicious smell of a variety of mezes appearing from the back of the kitchen. The crispy prawns with harissa and boards of herby lamb kebabs disappeared in seconds as everyone chowed down in agreement to the taste buds of Turkish cuisine.

Next, we explored the Scent station. Filled with beautiful and ornate perfume bottles, it felt and smelled like a trip back from the perfumery at the Grand Bazaar. We were introduced to the various scent available, from sandalwood to pomegranate to rose, which surprisingly was also used in the world famous Turkish delight sweets. I did try to guess the scents, but failed terribly. Sandalwood was definitely my favourite!

For the final sense station, we were introduced to ‘touch’. For scrubs that looked as good as they were to eat, they are made up of natural ingredients such as coffee, sugar, and the lovely scented rose water. This would be the perfect complement after a soak in the steamy Turkish Hamam bath.

I always enjoy meeting up with my blogger friends and met a lot of new faces as well. I loved these photos from Lucie and May, who decided to give these golden orange cape a go to release their inner Turkish goddesses. And Katy who really embraced the theme and spirit of Turkey with her adorable little red fez.
