Brunch at The Modern Pantry

Life has been a little bit hectic lately. Especially with the upcoming holiday season as London friends are packing up their calendars with socials and festivities.

I was glad that we finally had a chance to catch up with the lovely duo Cat and Graham behind our beautiful wedding photography at the Lansdowne Club. Yes, in London sometimes you will have to book a date in the calendar 4 weeks in advance. Such is the speed of life we are living in these days.

After having tried Modern Pantry in its flagship location in Clerkenwell a few months ago, I decided the new Finsbury Square location was perfect for a weekend brunch double date.

The restaurant is a fusion of clean minimalist design, art deco features and mixed with soft furnishing. The best way to describe the Modern Pantry’s style is understated yet classic.

The all-day menu works around London’s on-the-go lifestyle perfectly. We arrived just pass noon, and opted for a mixture of full lunch mains and eggy morning plates.

Graham was ecstatic that he spotted burrata as we were examining the dishes on offer. This humble little mozzarella had its share of fame lately in a variety of restaurants menus. Smoked burrata, golden beetroot, spelt, toasted buckwheat & pickled plums arrived complete in all its glory and it was a beauty. We all agreed that you need more burrata in your life.

Having skipped breakfast, I opted for a grilled Quality Chop House merguez sausage, lemongrass roast vine ripened tomatoes, plantain fritters, served with 2 poached eggs on toast. The toast was slightly on the crunchy side for my taste, but otherwise the plantain fritters were a new revelation for me.

Good food combined with friends who are sharing the same journey with you is a truly fantastic experience. We talked about design, love of photography, digital technology and of course all things food related.

We said goodbye after appreciating the beautiful flooring as we exited this beautiful restaurant. Everything about the interior left me relaxed and ready to face the rest of the busy weekend of festivities. I would return again, this time for the people watching as the world goes by with a nice plate of burrata. Just maybe.
